About FILMET

Family First

The Filipino Canadian Association of Toronto Metropolitan University (FilMet) is an organization whose purpose is to promote an understanding of the Filipino culture to the Toronto Met community and address the concerns of students belonging to, and students interested in the respective culture.

FilMet provides an understanding of Filipino culture and unity to the members of this organization, while also allowing the Toronto Met student community to connect and network through hosted events and activities. This student group organizes intramural sports teams, movie nights, karaoke and games, culture shows, history workshops, pub nights... just to name a few!

FilMet is composed of committed, responsible, fun, and eccentric executives who will stop at nothing to make sure that members are provided with exciting and educational events! FilMet wants to give something back to the Filipino community and have a greater influence at Toronto Met and the surrounding Toronto area.

In late April, Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) announced their new name change. This change is the first of many steps for Toronto Met to imagine a future beyond the legacy of its previous namesake, Egerton Ryerson, who was instrumental in the design of Canada’s residential school system. As a team, we believe it is only right that we go through some changes as well. On August 4, 2022, we announced our student group name will now be called FilMet moving forward.

We can’t wait to start this new journey with our past FCAR family and our new FILMET one!
